WONG SAI SO 33 years,

Residing on board Steam Launch KWAI HING,

Born at Hong Kong,

States:-

I am a coxswain employed on board the Steam Launch

KWAI HING. I have been so employed for the past 12 months.

At about 08.00 hours on the 21.1.40. I left Hong Kong

bound for NAM TAU which two cargo junks in tow, the numbers of

the junks are 2312V and 2233v. We had on board a cargo of flour,

paint and sundries. I don't know who the cargo was to be

delivered to.

We arrived at NAM TAU at about 17.00 hours same day

(21.1.40) where the above two junks dropped anchor about 1000

feet from the shore. While I took my launch alongside the wharf

I remained alongside the wharf until 07.00 hours (22.1.40) where

I went back to the two junks and took them in tow.

At about 08.30 hours when cruising off CHEK WAN, a

Japanese motor boat which was at anchor with 4 junks signalled

us with a flag. Two Chinese males dressed in European style

clothing who I believe are agents for the Japanese told me to go

alongside which I did. The two Chinese males in European style

clothing then boarded the Japanese motor boat and spoke to

Japanese. I did not hear what took place. The two men then gave

orders for the cargo to be transferred to the two junks I had in

tow. I then got under way with the two junks in tow and set sail

for Hong Kong. On arrival off the Yaumati breakwaters we were

stopped by two Police Launches and ordered to proceed to Yaumati

Government slipway. I have taken the two Chinese males in

European style clothing back and for to NAM TAU 8 or 9 times.
